DESCRIPTION:
Rent is Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning rock musical,
inspired by Puccini's La Boheme. It is a joyous, breathtaking and often
heartbreaking musical that celebrates a community of young artists as
they struggle with the soaring hopes and tough realities of today's world.
Set in New York City's East Village, Rent is a documentary of the interwoven
lives of a group of young Bohemians and misfits. friends, roommates and
lovers struggle to live their dreams despite the ravages of substandard
living conditions, no cash flow, drug abuse and AIDS. They struggle to
have hope for today and faith for tomorrow. Known as a "rock opera",
Rent also encompasses blues, salsa, pop ballads and other contemporary
styles of music.
